Andrea Nixon and The Prairie Son | You Didn't Make Me Kicking it Old Country Style

by CA Marshall

Starlight Music Chronicles (SMC) seems to be a Mecca for all music genres but as of late, it is clear that the Canadian Country Music Scene has really taken a shine to the website and we have been happy to receive messages from Country Artists such as Andrea Nixon and the Prairie Son. Why? Because discovering a music video for the first time that is absolutely full of electricity and charge like Nixon’s ‘You Didn’t Make Me’ truly is the Cherry on this already iced cake.

The song clearly talks about female empowerment and the visual clearly supports this with scenes of a young woman ‘under her man’s thumb’ (so to speak) stuck in a small town thinking she has no way out.  With the final scene showing that the young woman has ‘had enough’ she gives a knowing look to a young girl (in a previous scene who also stands up to a boy) before walking away from her life towards freedom.

Cleverly, Nixon is also featured in the video walking down the main street of a small town with her ‘Music Posse’ demonstrating her empowerment in the song with a 'Safety in Numbers' sort of theme. (see photo above)

Nixon reached out to Starlight Music Chronicles recently and asked us to have a look at her new video which dropped August 4th and is also featured currently (until August 11th when we change to another ‘Video of The Week’) on Starlight Music Chronicles. Be sure to check it out! (Click Here).

At the onset, I was blown away. This is a deliberately strong piece which will resonate with anyone suffering the effects of bullying behaviors and searching to find their voice. Like a horse kicking at the barn door, this video has come out with a forceful start and is off and running!

Well done!

Artist Bio:

Andrea Nixon is a Western Canadian country music singer songwriter living in Edmonton, Alberta. She was born in the small town of Kitimat, British Columbia. Her strongest musical influence and inspiration is Patsy Cline, though she counts other classic country artists such as Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn amongst her idols. Being that she is a devotee of traditional country sounds, her own material marries toe tapping twang with contemporary storylines peppered with a fair share of heart ache, a smattering of optimism and a little humor. The end goal of both her song writing and performance is emotional authenticity & a strong connection to her audience. Her voice and musical styling have been compared to a young Dolly Parton on one end & the fiery Reba McEntire on the other. Her shtick is to write her own life into song in a way that her audience can connect to. All the members of her band the Prairie Son bring years of experience, phenomenal talent and skill, a genuine love of country music & tremendous energy & enthusiasm to the stage. Andrea Nixon and the Prairie Son are playing locally & planning an Alberta wide tour.
