SMC Enters Season I 2015-2016 Artist of the Year Competition June 20, 2016 | The Scoop

It has been one full year since we first began our Artist of the Month (AOM) competitions and we have to say, it's been an amazing journey with some of the worlds finest Independent Artists. In just one week, the voting polls will open up for our Artist of the Year competition which will include all 11 AOM winners from August 2015 until June 2016. So here's the scoop on how it will all go down:

On June 20th, there will be TWO polls that will open up for unlimited Fan Voting. This means that Family, Friends, and Fans of the Artists competing can vote an unlimited amount of times per day every day (10 days total) for their fave. So why two polls? It has become increasingly apparent that there are two age groups that have applied for the AOM competitions over the course of the last year. We felt it would be easiest to break up the win into a 'TEEN' and 'ADULT' competition not only to tailor the competition to see if there is continued/enough interest in going into a second season for a simultaneous Teen and Adult monthly competition for 2016-2017, but we also recognise that many of the youth are just beginning their music careers and may feel they are at a disadvantage to their adult peers who may have been involved in the Music Industry for a longer period of time.

Our TEEN (17 and under) Artist of the Year Competitors Poll will include:

The Voting Poll Platforms will be created on Two Separate Pages on the Starlight Music Chronicles Site which will make for easy sharing for both group competitors and their social media platforms. However, the Facebook Online Event will incorporate all Artists in the running so as to keep information we will be blasting focused in one spot for all of the Family, Friends, and Fans cheering these amazing Artists on. Both Voting Poll platforms will launch at 12:01am MST in North America on June 20th, 2016 and run until 11:59pm MST in North America on June 30th, 2016. We will give our Judges a 7 day grace period for their decision and our Winners will be officially announced on July 10th, 2016 on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. Interviews and Official Pages will be set up on our website by July 15th 2016. 

To Register as a Voter/Spectator of the frequent Information/Social Media blasts and to stay afloat of the day to day (and minute to minute) event details, we fully encourage everyone to click 'Attending' in the event itself (click here to be directed). Don't worry, you don't actually have to show up to the 'event', it's for info purposes only so that you can make an educated choice as to who you feel deserves to be our TEEN and ADULT Artists of the Year.

The winner in each category will have the opportunity to be spotlighted throughout July 2016-June 2017 on ALL Social Media, Website, and Magazine platforms which includes Radio Interviews on SMC Radio with Host Ty Anderson (aka: Ty The Voice Guy) and updates on the Artists progress seasonally/or as news comes up for them. (example: new music releases, events, video releases, etc). This is a value worth thousands of dollars and which not only holds a dollar value, but bragging rights as being the very FIRST Starlight Music Chronicles Artists of the Year!

Please keep in mind that this is a 50% FAN VOTED and 50% Judges panel Voting Monthly Competition. Our five judges are as follows: Mike Lang, Randy Wayne Belt, Walter Hargrave, and Michael McKenna as well as Editor for SMC, Candice Marshall. These votes will count for the remaining 50% of the final votes and be also considered for the winning Artist of the Year spot. ALL judges have experience in radio, contests, music journalism, magazine publication as well as song writing and production on the indie scene. Detailed Contest Rules will be posted on June 15th for all Participants and will include specifics of the Do's and Don'ts for our Event.

SMC Supports LIVE4TAY FOUNDATION for Childhood Cancer Awareness

Well it was inevitable that Starlight Music Chronicles would begin supporting organizations on our Affiliates section of the website because as we network with our Brilliant Artists, we are also meeting the organizations and foundations they also support. This one in particular: LIVE4TAY, also is close to home for myself as an individual whose family has also been affected by cancer. 

With all of the recent deaths of our industry greats in the last two weeks alone, and which has devastated fans and friends and family who loved them, when we look at children and their families going through this, it is unfathomable. I do hope that you will all check out the Live 4 Tay website and consider a donation to help a family financially struggling to make ends meet while they try to remain strong for their child. 

We would like to send out condolences to the Filorimo Family for the loss of their beautiful daughter Taylor. You are all doing a wonderful thing to honor her memory and we are happy to help in any way that we can through promotion in our Magazine as well as website. 

We would also like to thank Recording Artist Kaylin Roberson and her family for being so supportive of this family and for bringing awareness to Starlight Music Chronicles via Maria Coleman Filorimo in our February 2016 Artist of the Month competition. (Maria made a lovely post in support of Kaylin in our competition by sharing a song that Kaylin dedicated to Taylor) If we had not have met, this article for awareness would not even be possible. Taylor's Story

July 31, 2009 Tay was in Illinois for the ASA Softball Nationals. This was the last time Tay played softball, but she played a much bigger game after that day. In early August of 2009 Taylor Filorimo was diagnosed with a rare form of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). 

On August 4th, 2009 (the reason the number 4 is a part of PRAY 4 TAY), Tay had her very first surgery where they removed three tumors and 5% of her right lung. After numerous tries with different clinical trials and chemotherapy treatments, on Dec.29th, 2011 her scans showed the cancer had spread back into the right lung. In Feb, 2012 Tay was discovered to have more than 23 tumors in and around her lungs, spine and heart! Tay holds the record of being the youngest patient ever diagnosed with Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Papillary Type 2, which is most commonly diagnosed in age 50+ year old adults.

Taylor always held a positive attitude, many, many times encouraging her new found friends that she met along her journey who were facing similar situations, as well as being the cheerleader for her family, teammates and closest friends in HER FIGHT! She was always thinking of others. 

In September, 2010, BIOSILK Kids honored Tay's GOLD PROJECT by adding a gold ribbon, along with Tay's story, to the BIOSILK Kids shampoo & conditioner for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In April, 2012 she inspired Kim Milliken, Clinton's mom, (Clinton, 8, lost his battle fighting Medulloblastoma, a type of brain tumor, on January 19, 2012) with a wish from her bucket list to create COLORS FOR HOPE nail polish to honor or remember her friends along this journey. All proceeds from this project go directly toward childhood cancer research. Be sure to Like COLORS FOR HOPE on Facebook! Tay is also responsible for giving life to the phrase HOPE IS EVERYTHING and has immeasurably raised awareness for September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and brought meaning to the GOLD ribbon for many. She also referred to Wednesday every week as HOPE Day. Tay's philosophy on her diagnosis: "I will NOT let the FEAR of cancer STRIKE me out."

Tay played her last inning here on earth on September 5, 2012.  She left a large "bucket list" of things that she didn't have time to accomplish in her quest to raise awareness for childhood cancer and help families that she expects her Warriors to Live 4 Tay and make happen, and we will, with your help, to TAY IT FORWARD!

The Live 4 Tay Foundation supports families who have children with cancer by providing financial assistance generated through fundraising events held to raise awareness for childhood cancer.  We maintain a passionate commitment to raise funds, foster community support, and promote childhood cancer awareness.

The Live 4 Tay Foundation is a community-based organization dedicated to raise awareness for childhood cancer through advocacy and education, and by raising and disbursing funds to provide financial assistance to families who have children with cancer and to organizations that are leading innovative research for the prevention and cure of childhood cancers.
